Organize your cabinets & cupboards

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been having helpers put away bowls and platters during the holidays and everything seems askew. Now’s the time to assess your stemware, glasswares, fine china and everyday dinnerware for cracks, crazing and chips. If you find pieces like that, throw them out immediately! You don’t want to risk having a friend or family member cup their lip because you kept a piece of stemware with a chip on the rim because you didn’t want to break up a set, it’s not worth the risk! I have a set of 5 Waterford wine glasses and as much as I would have loved to have a set of 6, it wasn’t worth the risk of someone hurting themselves.

Do you have glass bakeware with a chip? Toss it right now! You’ll be surprised to find that it can suddenly break while you’re cooking in it, again it’s just not worth the risk! I was in my 20’s when that very thing happened to me and the contents of the glass Pyrex baking dish were all over the bottom of my oven.

Assess your wooden cooking utensils, if any are splitting throw them out. Those splits and cracks can harbor food and bacteria. Again it’s better to be safe than sorry.

This may surprise you but I’ve found cracked and crazed pottery and chipped glassware on my quest to reorganize my dishes and glassware, those pieces are now in my dust bin.
