Small Cuts Storage
Unlocking the Full Potential of Your Sewing Room: Part 4 - Small Cuts Storage
The world of quilting has been revolutionized by fabric companies, making it possible for enthusiasts to own a piece of every fabric line without breaking the bank. The temptation is real, with fat eighths, fat quarters, charm squares, mini charm squares, jelly rolls, and layer cakes at our fingertips. Many quilt shops now offer half-yard cuts of entire fabric lines, neatly packaged with a ribbon.
So, how will you store these treasures?
Here's what works wonders for me.
I have two Kallax units from IKEA, anchored to the wall for safety, with my yardage stored separately. The third row of my units holds stackable, clear acrylic bins from Target's BrightRoom collection. Using a label maker, I've created labels to easily identify the contents of each container. All these containers fit perfectly into the cubbies of my Kallax units.
And then, you know what they say ‘you dont know what you have until you sort through it”. That ah ha moment eas when tralizrd I had accumulated so many more fat quarters than I had ever realized! I thought six containers would suffice, but I ended up with 24 of those little rectangular containers. Everything is now sorted and at my fingertips, a true marvel of organization. I’m no longer buying fabric since I’m on my self imposed ‘shop my fabric stash’ challenge, rather than buy more I’m using what I have and being creative with it.
