UFOs
Let’s take a moment to talk about UFOs, the unfinished projects kind that’s lurking in your sewing room.
This quilt project has been in a box and on a shelf since 2014, I found these photos in my Facebook archives. I think that 10 years is more than enough time for being in a box. I’ve pulled it out and worked on it here and there never really being fully committed to finishing it. Truth be told I vaguely remember finding parts of it frustrating me. Well that and finding other new and shiny things to make.
February is next week, I’m getting ready to participate in a finish it quilt along that’s all about getting our abandoned quilt projects out of the archives of our sewing rooms and get to working on them. This one is my oldest UFO, I need to get this one finished and in the quilting queue. I’m not in a race to beat someone’s time in finishing a project, rather than m there for the motivation to get this quilt top sewn together I’ve got another one quilt top waiting in the wings (it’s only a couple of years old), perhaps it too will get finished.
Sidebar- We all know that our tastes change over time. You might have a project in your sewing room that you’re not really interested in finishing for a myriad of reasons. When that happens you can do a couple of different things- give it to a friend who would love to have a chance at making it for themselves or to cannibalize it, dismantle the kit and use the fabric pieces for another project I’ve done both of these things this past year. We aren’t going to make ourselves happy by keeping projects that frustrate us or by making something that no longer interests us. The money you spent is long gone, keeping a project that no longer interests you is a waste of space. Either finish it or let it go. I’ll be doing more assessments in my sewing room of this very thing this year.
My 2024 is about me kicking ass in every way. Clearing out my UFOs is just a small part of it.
