Garage Storage
Every house we’ve ever lived in has been different, that includes the design and size of the attached garage.
When we made the decision to retire (for the 2nd time), sell our house in Massachusetts, do a major downsize and move down south - well that came with some new storage issues. While we did a colossal downsize in every aspect of our household belongs right down to holiday decorations, the thing that this house did not come with was storage. This is where my husband excels - designing and building practical things that real people can use in their homes. Over the garage door storage is not a new concept, my dad built something similar out of wood back in the 80’s over the garage door. Fast forward to 2024 and here we are, many companies have this kind of storage, it’s just figuring out what your needs are and what system will work best for you. The brand we used in our garage is Fleximounts and they have a lot of different storage options.
As I said earlier we pared down everything right down to our holiday decorations but we still needed to store those Rubbermaid and Sterilite tote buckets filled with holiday decorations. Stacking them on the floor was not an option for us as it’s valuable real estate that’s been earmarked for other things, plus we park both our cars in the garage. Having tons of boxes in stacks on the garage floor doesn’t bode well with us. Everything seasonal goes up here and it is the length of the garage door. My husband built this over the garage door storage shelf in 2023 and it’s been exactly what we needed. Items are easy to access and to put away. Check them out at Fleximounts.
